Range report
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:06:07 AM »
Shot a previously owned handi 45/70 today.  Worked up a hunting load previously for it.  Today only changed primers to see what would happen.

All pics are of a 39.2 gr. load of IMR 4198 with a 300 gr. JHP.

The first shot of the Tula primers that hit the black dot was from a dead cold barrel, other two touching.  May be shooter error.  Note how the magnum primers tighten the group up.  All are MOD (minute of deer)

CW,

This was not my new baby, (SS Ultra Hunter), but one I sold to purchase the Ultra that had FTF problems when I got it home.

The Ultra has a bunch of new parts and zero FTF's

We were just working up a hunting load for my friend who now owns one of my previous 45/70's.

This reminds me that I need to do the same. I have plenty of lo-vel loads for my 45-70 Handi, but not any that are proven game stoppers. Decisions, decisions.... Should I use the Barnes TSXs or Nosler Partitions?? Both! ;D

IMR 4198 is the way to go!

Thanks, Dinny
