An odd one for sale at International Military Antiques
« on: October 13, 2011, 08:39:20 PM »
Some of the descriptions they give of these guns tickle me. The loop that's integrally cast under the cascabel knob of this barrel identifies it as a field cannon; it's certainly not a swivel, or ships gun. It is odd though, a well-worn bronze one pounder with absolutely no markings on it. I think it's safe to assume that the "winter carriage" was made for this barrel, considering the elevation screw and fit of the trunnions (Starr 2011 should recognize the name of the manufacturer).

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Am I alone in thinking that the "Winter Carriage" is absolutely hideous?

Douglas,
I think that a lot of what you and Tim saw at the IMA warehouse was ordnance that they received from the controversial sale of a stockpile of Nepal's antique military materiale.

Starr 2011,
You are not alone in thinking that that carriage looks pretty damned funky.

There were indeed many Bira's there, it right-much good condition.  I don't recall seeing the Falconette though.

It's possible, but I don't think this small bore bronze gun came from the Nepal Arsenal; my guess is that it's pure bred British.

IMA is dating this tube much earlier than it actually is, it is most likely 1770's to 1800 era I do not believe they were casting the interface for the elevation screw as early as 1740...
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
