natural camo for blind
« on: January 01, 2010, 12:02:44 PM »
Don't know why I didn't think of this till the garden was burnt off, but next yr I'm gonna let the beans vine up on a fence of some kind then cut 'em all off at the roots when I'm done picking. That ought to give me some cover for a blind.

Another Idea I have used, is take your old Pampas grass(the tall ornamental) cut it at the bottom. staple it to then plywood. Or I would think you could tie it to fence of some sort. The grass is sturdy and will last a whole fall/winter season. ;)

That ought to be easy enough to get, even if a guy hasn't got any. People are always chopping it off short, then having to contend with all the stuff they wacked.

I made a teepee type one year for my wife out of corn stalks. I wrapped plastic around 4 poles to help insulate and waterproof it then put corn stalks all around it. Looked like an old time corn shock in the field. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Dead grass makes me sneeze.  Some contains chiggers.  Just thoughts.

You can also buy stipped palm leaves. Looks like grass. Chiggers? never had a problem with them. Maybe I am just to bitter for their taste ;)

Was thinking the other day. When I first got into deer hunting, seen deer hanging out in cut pastures. So I took some scrap plywood, and 1x2 lumber and a pallet. Framed a 4x4 round bale(hay) look alike. Wrapped it in plastic sheeting. attached grass. Made shooting windows front and rear. Let some of the grass drape over shooting holes. Framed one end so you could crawl thru the plastic. Made a small box for a chair and wa laa had my owne hay bail.
Then I sold it before deer season. Looked good though.

Yeah could have bought the hay bale blind(factory) But I do things the hard way and wanted to make one. Plus mine looked better. ;)

A strand of wire wrapped around a few trees close together to hold up cedar limbs (or anything else) works well.

Works for me and the cedar acts as a natural cover scent.

Not to mention easy to carry a coil of wire and a folding saw to cut them with. ;)

On my buddy's property we have a tree stand in an oak that has a fence frame and moss all around it.  We call it the "Mossy Oak" stand :)
