Take some Deet.  Last time I was there in Sept. the black flys were thick.

I hunted with Foggy Mountain Guide Service in Dover/Foxcroft, Maine.

I think that big bear in the picture above is in the freezer now, 440 lbs. I took a 240 lb bear. Mine went straight down, neck shot, & the other only 20 yards or so.

We had wind, rain, and no bears!!! Still had one of the best times and greatest hunts ever. I will have to try again for a bear without a doubt.

Went the 1st week of sept. in the Patten,ME area and did terrible. Our camp as well as others we spoke to had only 2 bear sightings all week. The weather was rain the 1st 3 days but cleared up.I think we're going to see a real drop-off in the number of bears taken in Maine this season when they get around to posting the results. My guide was at a loss for words.I called my guide up last weekend to inquire about the last two weeks of bear season and he wouldnt even say how many were taken, it was that bad. This guy has a great ruputation with pictures to prove it from every year.I'm interested to know if All of Maine had the same low bear sightings and take.

I did not go this year, but 2 of my friends went to the Outfitter I have used the past several years in Wade Maine. 2 out of 5 got bear the first week. He said he had the same problem with not seeing many bear. I think the weather had a lot to do with it this year. Very wet year.

They had a beech nut crop again this year and they weren't supposed too. Then Irene came through and blew them down out of the trees early. So they weren't hitting the baits. To much food on the ground where they were at didn't have to move.

I live in Northern Maine and the weather this year was the worst I have seen in a long time.  I saw plenty of bear early on this summer and at that time I would have guessed that the season was going to be a good one. However when it got closer to bait season it was just one day after another of rain.  Plus we had several big wind storms that did knock a lot trees down.  I was out partridge hunting today and saw three bear.
