This is on gunbroker now.
The barrel is marked SB2 44Mag.
Is this a change?

No this is not a change. My 44 Mag barrel is marked the same, it is a 2007 vintage. My 30-30 barrel is marked the same and my 223 is SB2 "Ultra", while my 444 Marlin is not marked at all. The frame is what really makes them an SB2 or not. There have been many 357 and 44 barrels sold marked SB2 on the barrel, but are on an SB1 frame.

The "CAC" prefix on the frame serial number indicates it is 2008 or later production SB1 receiver.

How did they figure that a .44mag running 35k+ and pushing a 180gr bullet out at 2300fps is less hard on frames than a .223 or .30-30?

I just bought a NIB 30-30 and it has a marking on the barrel that is strange. Its a small oval with "REP" in it. Any ideas what it means?

Dang, you got good eyes.  You made me check both my 30-30's, and neither one has that marking.  I have no clue.  Maybe Quick, or Brian would be able to answer your question.

Good eyes....not at all....lol....I just noticed it while looking it over when I pulled it out of the box and had to get a magnifying glass to see what it was...lol....bad eyes !!!

I could be wrong but I thought the REP stamp was a Remington stamp.  Interested to find out for sure.  My .357 has the same mark.

                  It is a proof mark. It stands for (Remington Proof). It means that the barrel was proofed at the factory & is safe to use.

One is a straight wall cartridge and the other two are bottleneck cartridges.
