Just wondering if they are ever going to release them or have they already?

I have seen a Howa 1500 w/ Hogue stock advertised on Able Ammo.  Price was about $480 for blues and $580 for stainless.  I've been waiting for Howa to start chambering an action in the 338 Ruger Compact Magnum.

I suspect you'll have a long wait before you see anyone other than Ruger chamber for that round.

I'm hoping other manufacturers eventually start making the 375 Ruger, as well as the 300 and 338 RCM.  I read an article on Chuck Hawk's website that makes a strong argument for how easy it will be for the other to start making this.  It has to do with the standard size 0.532" bolt face and standard long action.

Here's a link to that article:  http://www.chuckhawks.com/first_look_375Ruger.htm

I got my stainless barrelled action a few weeks ago. I chose the 24" barrel in hopes of getting good velocities out of the rifle. I haven't fired it yet because I suspect the recoil would be too much without a stock... I've been working on the stock for about ten hours now and the inletting is almost done. It takes time to create perfection since this is only my third stock. Comparing the 375 Ruger to the 308 Win Howa I've had a couple of years, I have to say that the older one has better finishing. Not by much but it is noticeable. I loaded some cartridges for the 375 Ruger in the autumn because in my country, every firearm has to be test fired by the test firing office (or whateveritshouldbecalled) if it's to be sold and there were no rounds for this one around. I mailed the rounds to the retailer to be forwarded to the Official Government Riflemen and I've seen no reports of any testshooter getting hurt at work so I guess my guess at the correct amount of N150 behind 300 gr Sierra Game King was adequately intelligent.

I've got some 300 and 250 gr Game Kings for practice and 260 gr Accubonds for moose. I'll probably move up to 300 gr Accubond when I have more experience with the rifle. I'm aiming at around 2650 fps V0. That should allow me to take moose at distances from 30 to 300 yds? If only there were more hours in the day so I could finish the rifle sooner...

Thank you, nomosendero!

I think it will be a while before you see any reports from me. The range I use is covered in snow and it's just too darn cold. Besides, the stock will take weeks to finish. But rest assured, I will report as soon as there is anything to report!

OH NO!!! SOMETHING ELSE TO PURCHASE. I always wanted .375 H&H. I have a .300 Wby Mag by Vanguard. Darn good gun for the money. Hope the .375 Ruger is just as good.

I had a very nice spring day at the 100 yard range today with my Howa .375 Ruger SS 24" (laminated "ioni" stock). The stock is still unfinished since I was in a hurry to start developing loads.

Having tested the 250 gr Sierra SBT for speed and pressure with two powders, I concentrated on a few loads in search of accuracy. 75 gr Vihtahousu (Vihtavuori!) N550, Federal 215, COL 3.386 in gave me an average V5 yd of just over 2600 fps and a nice lucky group. This load will do for practising running target (moose, 82 and 110 yd). Bullet diameter has already been subtracted from the reading by zeroing the calibre with a bullet.

I also tested the 260 gr Nosler Accubond for speed and pressure. 71-80 gr N550 at one grain increments gave V5's of 2464-2818 fps. The fastest load was a little hot. There was no stiffness in the bolt but the plunger hole left a clear mark on the case. But no worries, I only need c. 2600 fps for moose. I'm sure there is an accuracy window somewhere around the desired muzzle velocity.

I have to say that after just less than a hundred rounds I’m already a fan of this caliber! It’s nice to shoot and I’ve heard that .375 is great for large Finnish game. The 1” Limbsaver recoil pad really helps the shooter by absorbing the sharpness of the recoil. This rifle will be with me for a long time.

That is a fine looking stock!  With the accuracy you are getting right out of the gate, looks like you have a true tackdriver. Yea, you may not need that level of accuracy for normal big animal stuff, but for the longer shots & building confidence in the rifle, it's a great thing to have!!

I think I am going to get one at some point. But for now, I need to concentrate of my 264.

Thank you for the compliments, nomosendero.

Well...

I think I might have just the catridge for moose! Norma Oryx 300 gr @ 2670 fps V12ft and sub MOA accuracy. There's more velocity to be gotten out of the equipment but this is enough. Besides, this was the accuracy load with the powder I use. I hope I have something to report after the moose hunt.

Well, the season for moose is over. Managed to take one medium size bull moose with this rifle. There was no bullet to be found and inspected, but judging by the condition of the moose, the cartridge works just as it is supposed to work. I.e. the kill was clean and quick.
