Win M92 tang sight, peep front ?
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:05:52 PM »
I have a Winchester M1892, .25-20 and I just added a Lyman # 2 tang sight.  I'd like to change the front sight to something like a Lyman 17 peep but I am brand new to this type of rifle and sights. Is there a peep front sight that might work with my set-up?

The ONLY reason for a circle-reticle front sight insert, would be for bulls-eye target shooting, so that the bull can be precisely centered in the circle.

I would never try it on game, sticking to a bead-type front for the proper use of any tang or receiver peep sight - NEVER consiously try to center a front sight in the aperture !

Simply look THROUGH to aperture, AT the front sight bead/tip, and place the front sight "on target".
The rear barrel sight should be either removed or folded down, for a clean/clear sight picture through the peep.

The human eye will subconsiously auto-center itself in the aperture, allowing accurate shooting (ask any Olympian).

I got one on my rossi copy.  The 17 comes with the circle apertures and posts apertures.  One of the post with a bead top is the same as the circle apertures in height to the center of the bead/center of the circle aperture allowing you to switch between them without changing the your sight settings.  They are a lot of fun both at the range and in the field.
