Propane Cannon

I built a covered, ramped, carport to drive up into to load and unload my disabled wife... the lousy birds love to fly in and poop on the car(s).  I bought a Bird-X product but it has been marginal in its success at driving the critters away.  Attached is a link for propane cannons to scare birds away.

  Does anyone know of any person/establishment making something like this product but with some decent character...  like a pre-1899 ordnance replica of some scale?
 
It just seems like if I'm going to have it going off every few minutes it should look like... well... I'm sure you all know.  8)

Hmmm.

Propane cannons are generally over the line on what we've chosen to be the range of what we cover on this board.

BUT, propane might be an application for the cannons that we've seen that are sometimes refered to as pipe bombs.

Vintage eh?  Zulu - how does oak stand up to propane?

And then there are the birds - I have two cats that would love the entertainment ....

 :o I use propane to start burning the oak in my smoker. :o
Here is Gunsonwheels' new carport after using propane in a wooden cannon. :-\
But the birds are gone. ;D

When I hunted in Canada there were several in fields to keep the Geese out . They worked for several days I was told but long term the geese got used to it. They are very loud , If one was in the next 1/4 section it would get on your nerves in short order.

Along time ago we put the whole topic of propane cannons off topic for Cannon forum.  But those cannons were the type used for well cannons.  Wildlife control well that is another issue, but out side the scope of this forum also.   So I have moved this post tot he Wildlife and Land managment forum.


We do have a forum on GBO that does deal with this issue and I am going to move this post there.  You will most likely get a better answer there.

I assume you have exposed rafters.  Once birds start roosting it is very difficult to make theme stop.   About the only thing that will work is to deny the rafters to them, by covering them.

Noise makers are not that effective.  The more consistently they go off (every few minutes) the more likely the birds are to get used to it, and just ignore it.  What kind of bird is it? Is it protected in your area?  If not protected shooting a few at roosting times for a few days in a row will run them off all together.  Ever heard a hunter say they don't know what happened to their favorite hunting spot?  They didn't kill all the wildlife off, they killed the place out.  The wildlife "decamped" to other places with less pressure.

A random and dense latticework of mono-filament line, 25 to 30 pound test, is well documented throughout Florida for keeping shore birds off of, out of, and away from pool decks and patios of beachside hotels and motels, restaurants, and bar and grills.  If you have exposed wood framing, it should not be difficult to discourage these birds with mono-filament line.

Glad to talk propane cannons and wildlife discouragement together on this Board.

For a while, the plethora of illegal gill nets were amost to be had for free.  Maybe some are still.  Great idea.

if your just wanting to get rid of the birds? hand one of those plastic owls in the carport and also put sum large rubber snakes around where they roost
that usually will do the trick.
