New 30-30 - Range Update

Went to the range this morning and tried out the new 30-30. New scope and mount worked great. Used Win. 150 gr. Power Points and was getting about 2 in + groups at 100yd.s. Trigger is a little heavy but not too heavy with no gritty feeling or creep. Put 40 rnd.s through it and lock up, extraction was perfect. With a new gun,barrel, and scope, not bad for its first time out. A good cleaning and bore polishing and more rnd.s through it and those groups should tighten up if I can do my part...lol

if its shooting that good don't mess with it, just clean it and keep shooting, they get better with more rounds down the tube.

 Thats about the best mine will do with everything I've tried.  I'm currently using 150 grain Nolser Ballistic tips with LVR powder, from what I'm seeing from my chrono and ballistic charts, I should have plenty of foot pounds to cleanly take deer to at least 225 yards

Thats what i've read about the accuracy, gets better with age...lol. I'm going to try a box each of factory Federal and Remington 150's and see how they do. I don't reload as of now, but i'm saving the brass just in case I decide to start.

I also use the 150gr Win Power Points.   2 + inches in the first 40 rounds is pretty good. You'll find the groups tighten up as trigger gets smoother.  I've got my groups down to 1" - 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.  Glad your happy with your Handi. ;D

The 30-30 Handi rifle is well known for it's accuracy. Also, it can be reloaded with pointed bullets for a bit more versatility. Last weekend I loaded mine with 110gr Speer Varminter bullets. They were flying nearly 2700 fps and I had a clover-leaf group at 50yds. Hang with it and yours will be a tack driver someday soon.
