Not very big (bout' 125#) but a boar. Was cleaning out the back of the PU of garden waste (this afternoon about 2:45 PM) at the upper ranch brush pile when my bud said we had a flat. pulled 30' down into the road and jacked her up and removed the bad one and got the other one out from under. Was putting on the second lug nut and he said "There's a Bear"-loudly, ya right I thought. I looked up and his eyes were like eggs so I looked where he was pointing and shurnuff. Was on the edge of the field about 90 yds and crossing under the barbed wire fence onto the road. He stopped and looked around but had no idea we were there in plain sight. I was the one w/the tag s grabbed my late 1940's Hva FN 270 off the dash and stuffed one in (130 Sierra BT w/60 gr. H4831) he went behind a small fir and out the other side in no hurry, I gave him the 'Baaaa" he stopped but there was a limb horz, through the center of the shoulder (he was facing dead left), he started to move left again behind another fir and when he was open another "BAAA" and he stopped. Shot him through the center of the shoulder, he reared over backward to the downhill side behind the limbs and let out a little moan (This is the only time I have ever heard one but read about them all the time and have probably shot 25+ bears growing up on a cattle ranch in NE Washington St. Anyway very dead bear w/ the shot through the top 1/3 of the heart and an approx 1.5" hole. Should be sausage in a couple of days-Swifty
