Just get out and start looking! They pop up behind and underneath you so check and double check! It's almost scary like they are sneeaking up on ya!

Let's see now. In creek bottoms check around Sycamores and Red Birch. In the deep woods look under Ashe. In the woods in general Ashe, big sick or dieing Elms, Poplar groves, Wild Cherry.
Something I've noticed that happens to me when looking is that it takes a while to "get your eyes right". Don't look right at your feet while searching, look out ahead to around ten yards and they seem to show up better. There have been times that I covered an area and not found anything and on my way back found them because I was looking out in front of where I'm walking. Shoot, I've even looked and set down to take a break and listen to the nature and then there they are right in front of me.
Once you find one they generally start showing up.

Consentrate on finding the first one and when you do just stand at that spot and look around. The dummies that I hunt with, me, myself, and I keep stepping on them and they are much larger when they are flattened out. When they are all fried up you can hardly tell difference. If you can't find them make some cracker crumbs and add a can of mushroom soup.Mix to gather and drop spoon fulls and fry in butter. Not as good as the real thing but it will take the edge off.

Every time your in your truck, car or whatever take your GPS and look for gray trees(dead or dying Elm trees). Log the langitude and latitude in a journal, where you see these trees. Go back in the spring to look for your Morels.
