Ruger No. 1 7X57?

Hello, I came across a pre-prefix Ruger No.1 Mod. 1B in 7X57.  Wood is quite dark with fancy black streaked grain pattern.  Forend checkering pattern different than on recent no.1's., quarter rib, 26" med. wt. brl.  Overall gun looks to be near new. Has rings.  When I walked up, seller said he could go $1800.00..price marked was $1900.00..I didn't make offer..thought I would check with you guys first.  Are these early No. 1 in 7X57 rare?  What would be a fair price range?  Thanks alot!

I would never pay more than what a new one goes for---but thats just me.

if its actually a 1b in 757 its vary rare. Ive never seen another. They made 1as and 1ints that i know of but no 1bs. That been said i sure wouldnt pay what hes asking but im a guy that buys guns to use not to collect. They might talk me into 1200 for that gun if it were actually what your saying and it would have to be mint and have the box and papers so if a guy wanted to pawn it down the line he had everything. Having the box would inusre to me that it was original and not a rebarrel If it doesnt have the box and papers its nothing but a shooter and 900 would be about it for me. to be honest a 1b in 757 doesnt appeal to me. There heavy guns and the 1bs ive bought have mostly been in mag calibers that can use that weight for recoil and use that 26 inch barrel for ballistics. Now a 1a in 757 is a sweetheart of a gun.

I agree with both of the above posts.  I don't buy guns to make them into safe queens, I use them, but I take care of them.  A gun that cannot be used (a "rare" collector gun) is useless to me.

a 1b in 7x57? i cant think of a better combo.but what do you want to do with it? the 1b is a heavy gun. i had one in 06 for years.killed a ton of deer with it but it never really handled like i wanted a gun to.and sometimes during stalking and was slung on my shoulder the lever would rub on my clothes and partially open.i did not like that. a pretty gun and fun to shoot off the bags.it did teach my son you dont need a 30 rnd clip to deer hunt with!if you get it let us know how it shoots.

Ive got to agree. they make a good beanfield rifle or a stand gun but there a bit heavy to carry all day. I much prefer the 1a for standard calibers.
