Good Luck Tomorrow, Bama Boys
« on: November 18, 2011, 02:30:05 PM »
Opening Day - Setting my alarm clock for 4:15, but I am sure I will wake up before it goes off.

Got 6 members in the club; two are involved in HS playoffs, one is going to Auburn homecoming, two others are in another club.
I will be all by my lonesome on 600 acres, at least til noon.
Set my my climber up in a juicy spot last Saturday, south of a strip of red oaks. We never have a SE wind, but one is scheduled for tomoorow. DANG.
Since no one else is coming, Think I will go to the NW corner of the property, and see what happens.

Who else is going?

I had set my climber on a tree where I could watch a white oak flat and several trails intersecting. Got in my stand before day light, but noticed that the wind wasn't right, but stayed there for several hours anyway hoping that one wold come in at an angle. I finally got down, did a little stalking and then moved my climber to another location where I could watch that same white oak flat from the other side. There was more acorns dropped than I have seen in several years, so I expect the deer will stay in the woods for a good while before getting out to the food plots. I'll let my new location cool down a few days and give it another try and hope the wind hasn't changed on me again. Also a 20 ounce Pepsi, a bag of peanuts and a Snickers candy bar makes a fairly good breakfast while sitting 20 feet up.  ;)

I was in the woods this am. Then watched a crossing thru noon. Cap'n D's for lunch. Now I'm just off of some hardwoods in my climber til dark. This wind is swirling all over. If I wasn't so excited about opening day, I'd probably doze off.

Didn't make it. I have no private land to hunt anymore and CWMA doesn't open until next week. I'll do most if not all my hunting there.

Maybe I can make a trip there with you sometime during the season. I'll have to see what's on the other half's schedule and go at least one time over there.

I've still had no boots on the ground time to help me decide where to go. I don't think I've ever been this late during a season I actually hunted.

After no luck yesterday, got a pass from the preacher, so I am going back out today.
He's going to want some backstraps for Thanksgiving.

Easterly wind should help me. 73 degree high won't.
