Twist rate?
« on: October 12, 2011, 11:28:45 AM »
What would be considered the ideal twist rate for the 357 Mag and the 357 Bain & Davis using 158 to 180 grain bullets in a 20 inch barrel?
I know Ruger uses 1-16 for their 77/357.

There is a formual to calculate the twist rate but I don't remember it. Perhaps a GOOGLE search would work or perhaps some one here remembers it?

Greenhill is (150*(dia*dia))/length, all in inches. Not perfect, but has always worked for me to get in the ballpark. This is with lead bullets. For solid copper or light stuff use a lower constant, say 130 or so.

Would that be the total length of the bullet or just the bearing surface?
