22 Mag Golden Boy try out
« on: June 24, 2011, 06:37:34 AM »
I bought my Golden Boy 3 weeks ago and have been to the range 3 times with 3 types of ammo.  I usually wouldn't of tried 3 ammo types out in 3 weeks but had been concerned.  My 1st ammo was Winchester brand Jacketed HP X22mh and had duds/light firing pin strikes.  The next 2 weeks were without a hitch with CCI Maxi Mag Total Metal Jacket and CCI Maxi Mag Jacketed Hollow Point.

Would you mind sharing what kind of accuracy you were getting?
Thanks Frank

I have been wanting a 22M lever for many years... hoping to find a Marlin 1894 I could afford... (NOT) to no avail... I shot and almost bought a Winchester some years back then I saw Henry was coming out with a Golden Boy in 22M... just never bought one...

YES PLEASE post pics and tell us how your shoots!!

henry does not recommend the use of w-w in those 22 magnums. mine does the same thing, w-w must use hard brass or something

I have had a Browning BL22 for many years (it was my first rifle)  I have never been able to Winchester ammo (of any kind (wildcat, western, etc)  The firing pin will dent the rim, but the priming mix just will not light.  If I put the same dented rim ammo in my Ruger Single Six they go off without a hitch.  Just so no one tries to blame Henry or Browning, I have friends that have had similar issues with Marlin and Remington rimfires as well.

As much as I love CCI Mini Mag .22 LR HPs I've shot far more Winchester 22 LR and .22 Magnum ammo over the years than all other brands combined. I used to buy it by the 5000 round case and went thru it in six months or less.

Both CCI and Winchester .22 Mag ammo has been 100% in all guns so chambered but in all my guns (a bunch) the Winchester 40 grain JHP is most accurate. Dunno why folks are having problems with it but other than one lot I got that was defective (.22LR) it's all worked as expected. It's still what I shoot the most of.
