TC - G2 Contender vs Encore?
« on: January 12, 2004, 05:58:18 AM »
how does this new g2 size up against the encore?i checked out a g2 45 muzz loader about two weeks ago and i like the feel of it.nice compact, light and quick handeling.after carring around my Knight rifle with a 26in barrel this g2 seens like it might be the way to go.the Knight weighs in at over 8 pounds.the g2 should weigh in at around 6 1/2 lbs all scoped up.sure would be nice to loose some weight and still have a good shooting muzz loader.

i talked to the factory rep about the g2 also concerning accuracy.he said 2inch and under at 100yds.also asked about this stock breakage problem with the wood stocks on the Encore, maybe being the same on the g2?he didnt have much to say about that.

anyone out there have one?
how its shoot?can you shoot MOA?
whats the weight of it scoped ready to hunt?
do you regret not going with an Encore?
i dont want to get into 45 vs 50.i have shot both and a 45 will do the job for me
tell me about your rifle please

The barrel arrived today. The Contender G2 weighs 6 lbs. 7 oz. with no scope, bases, or rings-- no way is it the "5-1/2 lbs." as in the catalog. It still is quite a bit lighter than my Encore, and there is no walnut stock breakage problem I've ever seen-- or heard of.

As soon as I can get some groups fired, I'll mention them.

thats to bad that TC cant put state the right weight on one of their new rifles.the weight you stated is allmost a pound heaver than what they say.the g2 i handled did feel light but it didnt have a scope on it either.i will give the g2 some more thought.

maybe i can have my smith friend mill some flutes on the barrel of my Knight and maybe i can cut some weight by hollowing out the butt stock.what do you think?ever hear of anyone doing that?i lighter gun would be nice.

All depends how you hunt. For stand-hunting, it hardly matters. For a lot of walking, I'd just get a lighter gun to start with.

Heavier guns are more fun to shoot all day. 8)
