Lucked into this one today!
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:12:36 AM »
Done some trading and came away with this beauty and $100 cash in my pocket.

All original as far as I can tell.... .41 Mag Old Style Contender w/ 10" barrel. Has the crossbolt safety and screw head firing pin selector. Serial # 152*** made sometime in the last half of 1979. Very slight bluing wear on the frame, walnut in really good shape for its age. Bore is immaculate, one-piece locking lug.
Looks really good for its age, just need to clean it up a little bit. No rust anywhere...sweet!

Nice 8) .....not sure that is the original forend for the non-easy opening frame, but it sure matches up nice with that grip which does look original.  Love them 41's ;D .

Walt is right about the furniture, these are not a "matched set".  The forend is Herrett style, the grip earlier and TC wouldn't have sold the frame originally with mismatched furniture.    This frame was probably made close to the transitional time between these standard issue furniture styles from TC.  Without digging in storage for my old sales flyers I can't put the exact year on this furniture change though.   But a guess would be when they also transitioned to the EO frames in 1981, to further set them apart as the new TC on the block.

A nice find in what sounds like in great condition, and the 41MAG is a great shooter.

I traded an Encore pistol for the Old Contender and got $100 to boot...got the Encore on a partial trade and found I just didnt care for it...the Contenders fit me alot better and do everything I need to do with them. Was a no brainer for me, others might feel different though.

Very nice, and I concur with the preference of contender over encore.

Dont know what you had in the Encore, but it would seem like you did well! I myself like Encores for certain Cal's I can shoot them in but my preference leans toward the Tenders.
