The Occupiers got me thinking.
« on: November 01, 2011, 04:49:27 PM »
With the way various municipalities are bending over backwards to avoid offending the Occupiers, maybe the NRA, GOA, SAF, et al. should hold protests on that same model.  Get together in parks, set up tents, dig fire pits, strap on their guns, sling their rifles, and hold up signs demanding our rights under the Constitution.  Given that all sorts of city ordinances are being violated by the occupiers, and that the police have been told to ignore reports of rape, robbery, and drug dealing, they should also have to ignore people carrying guns as long as they have signs or T-shirts with political slogans.

And, the cities can't require fees or permits, since they have waived those for the Occupiers.  And they should have to provide power, water, sanitation, and security, all for free.

If armed NRA members gathered in protest they would be terrorist. NRA members would be arrested by local police backed by Federal troops. NRA  members who resisted would be shot. Obama would appear on David Lettermans show and they would joke about the power of the NRA. :o

Could easily argue violation of equal protection and freedom of speech.  And assembly.  The Occupiers are getting all sorts of special treatment, and already TEA organizers are bringing suits against cities that charged them fees and required permits for TEA rallies, but are not requiring fees, permits, insurance, or anything else, from the Occupiers.  I don't think municipalities realize what they have done, what a can of worms they have opened, by treating the two groups differently.  There is now precedent for allowing violations of all sorts of ordinances and laws by anyone protesting anything.

this is exactly the thing that needs to happen.  if we sit on our collective butts, we will lose our gun freedoms.  I've been preaching it for 2 years.

There is no way that it would be a good thing for the Second Amendment to be dragged throught the mud and muck of an OWS type demonstation.  Who in their right mind would want to lower themselves to that type of rabble- rousing?

I would imagine that they would conduct themselves like the TP.

I'm not saying that we need the filth and lawlessness. But the precedent has been set for long term demonstrations without permits, fees, insurance, or any of the other roadblocks municipalities have put up to inhibit protests by conservatives.

Not only that, but a clean, polite, informative, and orderly demonstration could be used to show the contrast between the slovenly, vulgar, filthy methods used by the self-styled liberals and progressives.

while on trips, if my wife or I need to use someones "facilities" we make sure we spend some money with them.  they have a water bill to pay.
this is a foreign concept to the OWSers.  pigs are getting a bad rap by being compared to that bunch.
I've noticed that at TP rallies, you don't have to watch where you're stepping.

my gun IS my constant companion.  but I would like to see a large rally with everyone carrying "open".
the general public needs to see sensible people with guns obeying laws instead of violating them.

It's a neat idea, but I agree with a previous poster that few of us would be so low class.  Even just to make a point.

It will be interesting to see how precedents set here are aplied over time.

Protesting is OK...won't be living in any tent through, I go to work each day.  If I had any advice for the Occupiers not doing anything but living in a tent, I would tell them they will never get anything in life from staying in a tent everyday feeling bitter about something, get up and go do what you always dreamed of doing, work hard at it, do whatever it takes, and leave the people living in the tents behind. You might find time to protest while your working for what you want, but you won't have the time to live in a tent all the time.  Once you succeed at some things, it's not likely you'll be thinking the same, maybe you can give the people you left behind in tents some advice several years down the road. Chances are some of them will still be there waiting for something...and not knowing exactly what.

good advice but few will take it.
btw, requiring a permit to assemble in unconstitutional.

??? This is a Left Wing movement.  These people will be refined into an antconservitive movment.  The NRA will become a target of the these Pro Marxist followers. Geo. Sorros, The DNC, and Big Labor Unions are bank rolling this movement.  The Left wing media supports this protest. These are all anti gun anti NRA groups. The Left Wing protestors of the 1960s became the Anti gun movement we have today. :(

The general public does not associate "Sensible" with civilians carrying firearms  in a march/demonstration.

Maybe in the South, dunno about that. :-\

The only rally that I have heard of that I would support and do my best to ATTEND, -----armed.

Think about it long and it gets scarey quick. A real "gut check" for all those that scream "Secound Ammendment Rights" all the time.

If the leaders of "Gun Owners of America" and the "National Rifle Association" and all the other so called gun rights groups wouldn't attend In "support" they should be sumarily repalced.

Is there a state that would say "All of you come here." ?

NRA members have already done that !  They were neat, orderly, decent..no drugs or dope, no rapes, no filthy talk, and cleaned up after themselves.
There were thousands of us there with the Tea Parties....and how did the "major media"...and some other hunters/gun owners talk about us ?

one of the signs that the oinkers/occupiers carry says "down with capitalism".  that means they want communism.   there is no common ground.

Two negatives will never equal a positive.

In contrast to the Occupy bunch.
This one has merit. The newest push involves big banks. There is a movement afoot that urges people to move their financial business to small community banks and Credit Unions. I like it.

That's the honorable way of doing it !  A whole lot better than acting like the small child who smashes his toys in an effort to anger the Dad & Mom who feed, bathe and diaper him.. :P
By appearance of themselves and their 'occupation', it appears that some of these 18 to 20 something.. babies still need bathing and diapering !
