Browning BLR caliber idea...
« on: December 02, 2011, 01:33:37 PM »
Just thinking aloud here, but how about a Browning BLR chambered in .338 Federal? Ya i know they offer one in 358win, but i'm not a fan of recoil and i've heard the 358 has PLENTY.

I'd take a BLR take down in .338 FED with an aimpoint micro mounted in the "scout" position..

i had a blr in .358 and it did not kick any more than a rem mountain rifle in .280, as far as a red dot on a hunting rifle,i,d go with a good 1.5x5 scope. with the scope you are good to go out to 300yds and lose little to the red dot at very close ranges. eastbank.

With a 2moa red dot you're good out to 300yds too. I'd rather save the weight, and keep the handiness of the rifle.

There is not that much difference in recoil between the 2 rounds.  The 338 has better sec. density for the same bullet weight so may penetrate better.  My 338 Fed is in a Tikka, the 358 is an older BLR, both let ya know when the hammer drops.  DP

I haven't checked for awhile, but I don't believe they offer the BLR in the 338 federal, they do or have however offered it in the 325, and by most accounts from folks that have used that cartridge it's a good one.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....
