Anyone have problems with smith's customer service?
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:14:56 PM »
There may be something happening here that's beyond S&W's control but I've been waiting over five months for replacement springs for some M&P 14 round .45 magazines that bent the first time I loaded them.   I've contacted S&W numerous times, same reason always given-they are on order, just not yet available.(thats when they bother to reply or call back!)   I'm having trouble believing that they can't come up with three magazine springs.  I don't know about anyone else but had I sold something to someone, I'd have made it good long ago, new magazines, money back, something, anything to not cause hard feelings with a customer.

I've always had top notch service from S&W.

Maybe they are waiting for parts from an overseas supplier.

Granted, they should give you at least a time frame for your part, but I have always been happy with their service. You might try being more specific in your  inquiries. When they say "We're working on it", then reply by asking more specific questions. It could be a new person not used to the routine.

My son had a 40 cal pistol with problems. I called them and they sent me parts-free. Parts didn't fit- called again- Tech Svs laughed- said there are 4 firing pins for that model-send me the gun.  I did-FEDEX-got it back 9 day later-brand new full upper!-free. Who can fault that?

I recently had great service from the S&W factory guys.  I sent back a 28-2 revolver for a timing problem.  They said it would be 3 weeks to fix it; they delivered it in slightly over 2 weeks.  Work looks real good.

Most of the gripes I hear come from someone who thinks that they should do what he/she wants. When they say no, then CS iss fluke.
I wanted my old 1954 K22 refinished---it had sat in a scabbard for years until I got it from my Uncle.
Smith said they would not do it.
I asked why and they said the liability was too great. If the lost a part or a part was broken they would be liable and that they just didn't have parts for a gun that old.
Now, I can understand that & I don't blame S&W or CS.
On another board a guy went on & on & on because he could tell that the barrel was not bored to what he cosidered center.
From the pics, it was unnoticable, may have been if you mic-ed it out.
There comes a time when perfection is just not happening and S&W took it back and sent it back saying it was within specs.

Several years ago I bought a Model 629 and the scope base was not in the case. I went back to the dealer I bought it from and they said S&W didn't supply them anymore.  I called S&W, explained my problem, and had a scope base in three days.  When I ask them if they needed a ser. # they said no and apologized for the base not being in the case when I bought it.

Recently, I called them about a Model 586 recall. The guy I talked to at S&W said that the gun was so old if the firing pin problem was going to happen, it already would. I ask him to send me a written statement to that effect and he said he would send me a packing label.  I got it 2 days later.

My suggestion would be firm and professional when you talk to them.  Hope you get results.
