Remington 1100 28 gauge
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:38:29 PM »
I recently bought a Remington 1100 LW 28 ga, 25" IC VR barrel in good shape.  I have never owned a 1100, and I am not that excited about the 28 ga in general, but I got a good deal and want to make the gun work for me if possible.  If there are any Remington experts out there I could use some educated help:

The serial number is M482---J; When was it manufactured?

Can I buy a newer Remington 1100 28 ga barrel with screw in chokes for a gun of this vintage?

What is the approximate value of this gun?

Thanks in advance....

:-\ 01, I cannot answer any of your questions about the 1100, but I have an 870 28 ga. and I love it ....it is a neat little gun for much of the upland shooting in the east...I bought several cases of ammo...one 3/4 oz. loads and one case of 1 oz loads...plus there are some great 7/8's oz. loads out there...I can almost get rid of my 20 bores and use the lighter gun coupled with my 12's and have everything covered...good buy an a great ga...enjoy...

That is probably the very best beginner (young shooter) skeet and short / mid range gun value possible.  That gun has won many 28 ga. only skeet titles as well.

Enjoy it - redleg

It does seem like a nice gun, but I am somewhat put off by the price of the ammo and I would really like a 26"-28" length full choke barrel for it.  I'll shoot it for awhile then decide if i want to keep it.  I wish I was still in an area where I could rabbit hunt with beagle packs...I could see that the 25" IC barrel would be just the right thing for bunnies!

I know this post is old, but I still had to respond.  I am shooting the modern 1100 28 gauge premier sporting model of this gun.  I use 7 1/2s with a light mod choke in the gun for quail, chukkar, pheasant and huns.  I also have a Beretta 687 silver pidgeon II with the two barrel 20 and 28 gauge set.  I carry the berretta more often, because I am spoiled with haning the gun on my shoulder while I walk.  BUT - if I was meat hunting and needed food for the table, the 1100 is what I would carry.  This combination of shot and choke is ideal for close shots and very effective to 45 yards.  I have dropped birds siginificantly farther, but they were pen raised and I don't want to create controversy by quoting distances here.  Lets just say that you have one of the lightest and most effective upland game guns built.  Bite the bullet and spnend the money on the ammo.  Try and find some Estate 28 gauge.  Cheaper than most.  Will never miss fire and it is all you need for birds.  Try Cabela's around Christmas for free shipping.
