A day on the range.
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:25:27 AM »
I took three rifles out to my range today to do a final sight in before deer season begins. While there Matt and his entire crew came out to watch. When I was done shooting Matt got Wyatt's rifle and some ammo and it was their turn.

All three boys got their turns with Wyatt's Crickett rifle then Matt got one of my shotguns and he and Heather shredded their halloween pumpkins.

Wyatt decided he had to have his photo taken with his rifle for me to post on the internet so here it is.

GB, I know it's harder to get out and hunt  than when you were young, but there are some perks to old age....grandchildren are one of them!

Sounds like a fun outing...
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

That's a fine looking young man. He wouldn't be wearing shorts and a tee shirt around here today.

There are some things that aren't pleasant about growing old. Grandchildren and greatgrandchildren are something that makes old age better.

He looks like Matt did at that age and acts a lot like him but is MUCH more into guns and shooting than Matt was especially at that age. He's only 4 years old. He is still too short even for that little rifle of his and can't really look thru the peep sight on it very well cuz his finger can't reach the trigger with it on his shoulder.

I have a red/green dot sight for him and have the rings on order to mount it. Once it's mounted I think his shooting will improve greatly. His brothers Evan and Bradley are tall enough they can put the butt on their shoulder and get their head down to see thru the peep. Right now they are out shooting him but I'd not bet that will last once he gets his red/green dot sight installed.

Wyatt doesn't seem to know what cold is. I'll not be surprised to see him show up here in the morning in shorts and t-shirt with no shoes even tho it is gonna drop to about freezing tonight and the high tomorrow is supposed to be low 50s. He gets up before Matt and Heather and heads this way to see ganny Faye and papa Bill.

Oh boy! I hope you're going to let him shoot reactive targets. My kids loved to watch cans full of water or soda cans explode when a 22 hit. The big favorites were soda cans, clay pigeons and a steel target that spun when hit.

Then there was the prairie dog trip. My son still talks about some of the hits he had with those exploding 'dogs. I guess not all kids would like that, but my boy did.

It's really neat to listen to stories of you teaching your grandson how to shoot and so forth.  Both of my grandfathers died when I was an infant so I never knew the joy of having a grandpa corrupt me ;)

Your Grandson reminds me of my son Wyatt.  If I would let him I think he would live with his Grandpa and Grandma and only come visit me on the weekends lol.  I love taking my son to visit my Dad because it gives me a little bit of insite on what it would have been like to know my Grandfathers.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

I never got any real time with my grandfathers either. Dad didn't hunt or have any interest in shooting only fishing. I had to teach myself how to shoot and hunt but I did get an early start at it. I got my first bb gun when I was five and began hunting the various birds and rats around the neighborhood.

Since Wyatt lives up back it's just a short walk for him to be here every day. The 25 yard backstop of my 100 yard range is just across from their house so the range is close and quick to go out to for shooting.

Today I mounted a red dot sight on his Crickett rifle for him. I'm still waiting on proper rings to mount the red/green dot sight on it. Perhaps tomorrow it will be warm enough to sight in the red dot sight and let him try it out. I believe his hit percentages will dramatically improve.
