1983 Model 88 barrel "loose" upon take-down??
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:11:59 AM »
Hi, all, my first post here and so appreciate this fine site!!  Already learned the age of the Mdl 88 I purchased today.

Gun seems fine to me except that the barrel is "loose", meaning side-to-side, suppose you could say it "wobbles" when taken down.  I don't see obvious wear at the hinge pin though haven't looked closely at other areas.  Thought I'd better make sure this isn't an immediate safety red flag because if it is it's going back to the gun shop.

THANKS in advance for any help or suggestions.

John
It's all good fun until somebody looses an eye!!

If it locks up tight closed, with no up and down wobble, nor gap at the top next to the receiver face, I would shoot it and not worry.  The fore stock usually takes up the side to side on a shotgun well enough.  Try closing it on a piece of foil, etc.
