Motorist hits elk
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:38:51 AM »
Crawford Co Harrison Co line.  The animal was a young bull 4x2 and had to be put down due to injuries.  At least one other was in the area at the time.  It seems all the farm kept animals are accounted for.  When the story gets posted to the local paper site tomorrow I'll bring it here.

Lonny, hope he didn't damage your vehicle too bad.   :D

Interesting read. I wonder if they wandered up from Kentucky ???  I saw two elk this evening on my way home from work. That's pretty much an everyday sight here in SW Oklahoma...

Lonny,
My family has a car you can borrow until yours gets fixed... ;D

Thanks, Dinny

Here's the article.
[/size]Motorist hits elk
Lee Cable
September 21, 2011A young bull elk was hit by a vehicle near Milltown early Sunday morning and another elk was spotted nearby.

According to Indiana conservation officers, the incident happened at the Crawford-Harrison County line on S.R. 64.

"The vehicle that actually hit the elk, about 2 a.m., left the scene before officers arrived," Conservation Officer Dennis Talley said. "It was hit on the bridge at the county line. It was a fairly young bull, with two points on one side of his rack and four points on the other. Two Crawford County deputies responded to the incident and had to put the elk down due to extensive injuries."

Talley and Conservation Officer Cora Showalter both agreed that there have been few elk sightings in the area in the past.

"Just in the last couple of weeks, we've had reports of sightings around Spring Mill and Chambersburg," Showalter said. "There is a farm near Hardinsburg where elk are kept, but their animals are well-marked with ear tags, and they reported that their animals are all accounted for."

The officers plan to continue their investigation in an attempt to determine where the elk came from and how many may be in the area.

Alright you two. I can prove it was not me! #1 My Jetta would slide under the belly, taking out the legs only! #2 They would not have found the wounded animal, I would have tied it acrossed my hood and brought it home ;D

Maybe we will have Elk to hunt some day. Nah. Surprised the Red necks over that way let it run around that long.

The person who hit it was probably freaked out. Thinking man look at the size of that Deer!! Then forgot about the brake pedal.

Thanks for the offer Dinny, will keep that in mind while I look for the Elk in our area  ;)

I'm guessin somebody went to get Bubba, hollerin "You ain't never gonna guess what I just hit! Co'mon, let's go get. Bring the big truck."
Then panicked when they got back and saw the police.

I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.
