Welcome to the forum Hunter80.    Yes, you can shoot Foster (standard) slugs with your Rossi 20ga. Mod. choked shotgun without any problems.   I find that the cheap Remington sluggers work well in my particular gun but you may want to try several brands/designs to find what shoots the best in your gun.

Was shooting slugs from my 20 gauge youth this weekend.  Shoots good, but sure packs a wallop.  I have a slip on recoil pad installed, and it still hurts.  Be sure to use rifled slugs only.

Fill an old sick with BB's and stuff it in the stock. Recoil will be much less noticeable.
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

I filled the stock with BB's once, and that does indeed work, but since I have a Trifecta, the same stock is used for the .22 and the .243.  Don't really need the extra weight for those.  I just installed a slip-on Limbsaver, and that works OK.  I don't plan on using the 20 gauge much since I just bought a 12 gauge over-under.  I'll just shoot the 20 gauge when I have the longing for some massive recoil.
