Favorite 44 Mag Load for Ruger Carbine?
« on: January 31, 2004, 04:20:18 AM »
This would be for whitetail deer and hogs in the SE...I know the current manual for the new version lists 250-gr as the max (i think), but does that apply to an older model, too?  I'd like something in the 265-gr range, if possible...

thanks again,
drew

Remington 275 grain JHP Core-Lokt. Shot deer and pigs with it. Expensive, about 20-25 dollars for a box of 25. MIKE.

Deerfield Load

:-)
I loaded 21 grains of Winchester 296 under a 270 grain Speer Gold Dot. This reload shot to the same point of impact at 100 yards as the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot factory loadings. I shot two deer with the factory loads at fairly close range, and both required no follow up shots, expiring shortly after being hit. Both deer went about 75 feet after the hit, not running, just kind of dragging along and stumbling. Both died when they collapsed at the end of this little walk. Both shots penetrated completely through the chest area, the hit on the second deer entering a shoulder and exiting the ribs behind the shoulder on the off side.
