Another No Deer Sighted Weekend!
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:08:46 AM »
I just can't believe it!   :o   Not a hair seen!  In the woods anyway.  Saw 2 nice bucks cross the road; unfortunately a long ways from the farm!   :(

Not a single deer on my camara either!  I don't understand it.  I'm sitting on a funnel in a bottom that connects all the farms in the area.  Deer are usually walking back and forth through there all day and night long...  :-\

Oh well, time to do some exploring... One of my hunting buddies saw 5 does Saturday and had a 6 pt and a button on his camera so there are at least some deer out there!    ;)

Finally got the chance Sunday to hit the woods. Much of the land I hunt was logged last year. Sure did change the game trails. I spent a couple hours scouting different areas to put stands. I found 2 really promising areas along a fence row full of oaks.  I don't get home in time to hunt during the week so it looks like it may be another slow season for me. Sure do see plenty of deer when I'm driving around close to home.

For the last few years I let my grand kids put corn in the front yard for the birds. We started out with just birds and squirrels then a few rabbits. Last couple of years I started seeing all types of critters late in the evening. I now have a well traveled path from the woods in front of my house right by my mail box and into my front yard. Usually during the week before going to work I can watch deer eat corn. My grand kids would scold me if they knew what i was thinking :-\

They all migrated to Arizona Atlaw! Taking advantage of the lower late summer rates! Seriously, In seven days we saw well over 90 head of deer. About six of them shootable,of which two are sleeping rather soundly now. I hunted the area heavily burned by the Rodeo-Chedisky fire in 2002. Now the ponderosa pines are mostly gone and being replaced by Oak trees. This area before the burn was rather iffy on deer. Looks like the deer and elk populations could literally explode  in the next few years. Good Luck!
