Gun ownership at 20 yr high.

The Lookout       Poll: Gun ownership at 20-year high    By Liz Goodwin
National Affairs ReporterBy Liz Goodwin | The Lookout – 2 hrs 13 mins ago
Guns seized under Washington D.C.'s now-defunct handgun ban (AP)Nearly half of Americans say they have a gun in their household, the highest percentage since 1993, according to a new Gallup poll.
Forty-seven percent of Americans say they have a gun on their property. Gun ownership is up among Republicans as well as Democrats, though only 40 percent of Democrats say their home has a gun, compared to 55 percent of Republicans. Support for personal gun-ownership rights is also at a high. (The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.)

Reported gun ownership dropped sharply in the early 1990s and remained in the low 40s until today. Gallup says it's hard to know whether fewer people actually owned guns over that period or if they felt uncomfortable saying they did due to lower public support for gun ownership.

Loosely translated, Smart people invest in guns before the threat of a ban.  If said ban goes into effect you sell gun supplies for an exhorberant profit.  I'll have to dig up the article I found from the 90's that talked about gun sales going up before clinton's assult weapons ban.

Adding to sales is the worry of social and economical collapse.  Despite how the media spins gun facts, most people aren't stupid.  They know that if it ever comes to it they will be responisble for their own survival.  During the awful ice storms a couple years ago I was definatly happy to gave my gun with me all the time in case I needed to hunt or defend myself.  When the SHTF, the GOV is nowhere to be found.

If they can ban guns, they can ban the right to carry one outside the home and ban the private sale of guns and ammo.

I doubt a successful gun ban will get through any time soon.  Ban on assault type weapons maybe.  But it will likely mirror Clinton era ban regs.  And with a record number of gun ownership that likeliness is decreasing.  Private ammo ban?  Doubtful.  Communism?  Unlike some, I refuse to roll over and give up.   ;)
