Getting close to trying some PP in my Maxi and have a couple of questions.  First, is it necessary for the beginning and end of your paper to wind up even when you wrap?  Second, is it necessary to apply some type of lube to the outside of the patch?  I have the impression that some folks do, some don't.  Goatwhiskers

Ideally you want the ends to butt up to each other. If there is much of a gap you'll get gas cutting and a wild flier. I have found with smokeless, you can get by with a slight overlap which gets ironed out when you run the bullet through your sizer, but don't leave a gap.

As for lube you want to be able to chamber a round without damaging the patch. Lube helps this. I have shot a lot dry but have recently gone to Rooster Jacket and like it a lot. It lubes the patch but doesn't keep it from releasing instantly upon exit from the muzzle. You don't want anything that sticks the patch to the bullet or it'll not go where you want it to.

You said Maxi - I suppose that means 357 max? I have found a 100% charge of Lil' Gun lit by a small rifle mag primer works superbly in my max chambered NEF, FWIW.
