The 7-30Waters is a good barrel. My first deer with a Contender was with a 7-30Waters shooting Federal factory ammo. If your a hand loader there are a lot of good 7MM bullets to choose from. My favorite bullet for bottle neck cartridges for the Tender and deer are Nosler Ballistic tips.

I use the Waters in the Super 14" barrel...

I started using it in about 1988 or thereabout and the first bullet I used and stayed with until it was discontinured, was the Hornady 120 SSPSP and 32.5 grains of H-335...
(I still have a full box--100--and about 30 of them left in an opened box)

Since that bullet has been discontinued, I tried the Hornady V-Max in 120 grain...

Might actually shoot a bit better than the original SSPSP bullet...

Still use the H-335 powder and a CCI-200 primer.

Most always 0.75" groups or less at 100 yards and mostly at or near 1.25" at 150 yards...

Shot several deer, all less than 75 yards and both bullets performed well...

That's my choice and I ain't gonna try anything else...

Good-luck...BCB

Baitcaster, welcome to the forum, it is the greatest, and you will enjoy being here.  I have a 7-30 carbine bbl and like the 120 gr bullet the best.  Wallacem in Georgia

IMR4895 and 120gr Ballistic Tips work great in mine.

I am just getting back into hunting with my contender in 7-30 Waters.  140 Partitions with Reloader 15 shoots great as does 120 Ballistic tips with Reloader 15.  MOA accuracy at 100 with both and the deer I have shot with both were down within 40 yds.  But for a bigger hole I am going to look at the Hornady SST bullet.

I also have a 14" barrel and get the best accuracy and hunting performance with RL-15 and 120 gr Nosler BT or Hornady SP.

Hornady does not recommend using the V-Max for deer hunting as it is a varmint bullet, recommended the SP as a replacement for the SSP.
