bushnell red dot failure
« on: August 07, 2011, 04:58:04 PM »
I just had the chance to shoot a recently purchased Ruger Blackhawk in 41 Mag. It has a Bushnell Trophy red dot on it in a Weigland? mount. I was trying to sight it in at 25 yds and after the 7th shot the red dot in the scope diappeared. When I got it home I noticed I could just barely see the dot if I tipped the scope up. I tried to adjust the adjustments up a lot, but to no avail. Anyone else have a Bushnel  red dot go junk on a handgun from recoil? The Blackhawk is magnaported so maybe the blast got to it.  Does Bushnell have a decent warranty?

Check to ensure that the battery hasn't popped loose. I've had that happen on a Bushnell mounted on a .45-70.
I tried to warranty a Bushnell binocular several years ago, and a friend tried to warranty a scope. Both of us got no replacement, and no satisfaction. I consider their warranty a sham. If it's broken, return it to them anyway, and please let us know what happens.

I would also, but the Ultra dots are not that much money, and I have been using them on my big 500 Mag with no problems.

I had a Bushnell red dot on my Contender 7-30 Waters. Same thing with that. A few shots and the dot was gone. I was shocked because it had been on my slug gun for a few years. I am sure that shotgun had more recoil than the Waters. Sent it back to Bushnell and they replaced it. Don't remember if there was a charge or not. That was years ago and have been told now there warranty is  crap.

Thanks for the input. I'll call Bushnell when I get the time. I didin't purposely buy the Bushnell red dot it was on the gun when I bought it. For now I put a spare Leupold 2X on it. Guess I'll see how good Bushnell's warranty is.

Theirs is going to be a Limited Lifetime Warranty which means that it is for the lifetime of the original owner.

This is proved through the return of the product registration card or having the original reciept. Perhaps getting hold of the reciept is doable for you?

Return address is...
Bushnell Sports Optics Worldwide, 9200 Cody, Overland Park, Kansas 66214

And they want you to enclose a $10.00 check to cover the handling. They really do but i wouldn't if I did not have a reciept.

There seems to be a high incidence of them claiming the product was "abused", when the "abuse" was their sloppy manufacturing. A trumped up reason for denial seems to be their objective, not customer satisfaction.

Yes, had several do that. I use a small rubber strap wrench to unscrew the front tube from the turret. You will see the prizm glass inside the front of the inner tube. It has popped loose with the cheap Chinese glue.
It must go back fully in at the exact position, do not turn it. I use steel bed or a good epoxy to glue it back in. Use little and watch the glass.
Mine has been going strong for years on my .44 since I fixed it.
