New conquest???
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:45:59 PM »
I am seriously considering buying a new conquest. Is there any REAL difference in the 44mm obj. and the 50mm obj.? I can get a really good deal on a demo 3.5-10x44. Just using it in normal hunting conditions in Alabama.

I also hunt in Alabama and I use a 3x9x40 and seems to be plenty bright enough, you can usually save a few bucks and they work just fine.  The clearance between the scope and barrel is a nice match.  I know those sneaky Al. Deer step out at black dark and a bright scope makes the difference.  I don't think you will see much difference in the bigger objective.  But, if the money is burning a hole in your pocket, I would say... you need that new scope :)

The 44mm objective scope will gather in more light (exit pupil) than your naked eye can actually make use for when on about 6x or less.  So yes, I'd say that you are alright ;)

I've had the 40, 44 and 50.  I don't think a person gains much of anything after the 44.  I have 3 of the 3x9x40's and really like them.
