.356 Win Handi Rifle
« on: December 02, 2011, 12:11:07 PM »
I got my new .356 Win stubbed barrel today. It's a straight .850" diameter 20" stainless barrel and has the shiniest, smoothest bore and chamber I have ever seen. Rifle with scope weighs 7lbs 12oz. The custom scope base has been modified for 8-40 screws and the forend is glass and pillar bedded. I have loads prepared for testing but just hope the weather will cooperate enough this weekend to get out and shoot some.  Since the donor barrel is a bit older and somewhat worn (especially from machining) I plan to Duracoat it and the barrel in matte black to match the receiver.

Range Report- coming soon...

Thanks, Dinny

Nice looking rig. That thing is a twin to my .357 Max (other than I have Laminated stocks on mine).  ;) ;D

Looks very good! Post more pictures after you Duracoat it. It looks good just the way it is, but the Duracoat should make it better. I am very curious how it preforms - so keep us posted.

BTW: the case is too long for Indiana whitetails, even next year ::)

I don't recall getting one. We did have some discussions about favorite bullets but I think that was in the open forum. ???

No problem! I still have a few Maxis, 45LC, 44 Mag and ,and, and other guns to use in IN next year. ;)

Thats to purdy to be shooten.

If I were a betting man, I would bet it shoots just as good as it looks. ;)

I have one of those "to purdy to shoot"  firearms.

It reminds me of having a girl friend who was too pretty to .....uh....never mind.

........anyway there isn't a lot of point in having one if you don't use it.

A really nice rifle and caliber Dinny.  Now you've created an itch I may just have to scratch one day ::)   I was talking to "Santa" about it, and her only comment was "This house is starting to look like a H&R annex".

Enjoy it Dinny,

Pete

I'll pm you when in on a real puter and send you a link. It's from a older shooting times about the time Marlin chambered the Classic for the caliber.

Pete,
Maybe it would be easier to convince Santa of a rechamber rather than a new barrel. ;)  Inside 250yds the .356/.358 is real hard to beat! Considering the critters you have up there in "Da UP", I bet it would do real well for you.

Thanks, Dinny

CW, thanks for the info.  It's appreciated.  I've got an itch for that Marlin 1894CL too ::)  I saw one  on line for 6 something like new with some custom features including a full length magazine.  I came real close on that one.

Dinny, it sure would handle anything around here, but at the rate I'm not getting deer, It's not really a needed commodity.  But then, is there really any "need" after a 12 ga. and a .30 caliber??

Great looking rifle Dinny. I like the two-tone effect of the blue receiver area and the SS barrel. I looks like my .45 ACP handi barrel in that respect. Keep us posted as you get to shoot it and put it through it's paces. And that wood is great looking!!...<><....:)

I have only fired my .356 one round since Irene visited. Had a 7 pt eastern count in the scope sight.I'm eating venison sausage each morning. shot was 114 long steps offhand.200 gr hornady devistated the spine.
I do hope to get in some range time soon.
My favorites are the .356 and the 22K hornet.
Good luck with yours. I know you will be satisfied with it
