Reduced load for 8year old
« on: October 16, 2011, 02:38:09 AM »
I need to reduce a muzzleloaded load a little for my son any Idea how many grains of powder I should try.

I normally shoot 100gr of 777 with 240 xtp's and it works great.I just want to drop it down alittle so it dont rattle him to much. The shot will be 60 yards or less most likely.

Thanks
jake

i started my son on 50 gr of pyrodex and 240gr cast boolits and we worked up to
85 gr  but he is 12 years old now  i would start at 50 gr and a 180gr bullet
and work your way up if you have a scope on your gun with that load i dont
think he will get hit in the head good luck

Thanks Guys, I will try 60-70 and see how it does.He shoot a 243 alot and does very good with with.I think he will be able to handle 60-70gr with no problem.
I have a extra TC Triump that I just put a Ultra Match Dot Scope on just for him.I think he will be able to find the traget alot better with the red dot and the eye relief want be a problem.

Thanks Again

My boys shoot 50gr. of 777 and a 240gr. xtp. and out to 75 yards, it has been complete pass throughs on deer.

my guess is that, that particular load should duplicate a fairly warm 45 long colt load and be very manegable in a heavy rifle like a inline. and also work well on deer.
