What is the best reloading software?
« on: January 14, 2004, 03:38:11 AM »
After drooling over several reloading catalogs I've decided to make my next purchase some reloading software.  I was leaning toward the Sierra Infinity just based on their advertisement and some of what I've read elsewhere.

Do any of you have this program.  Likes, dislikes.  Any other program that you like better?  Any and all input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.  I like being an informed buyer.

Ranger, I bought Sierra Infinity several years ago and recently upgraded to the newer version. I use it along with my other "hard copy" manuals. The reload data is identical to the book version. It does have some ballistic chart capability that is usefull. My computer isn't located with my reloading equipment so I find myself having to run back and forth to check load info. Honestly, I wish I would have bought the book. By now I've probably printed enough to make a paper book. Look at the other post in the hand loading forum (Quickload software) for more info.

I have the Lee, RCBS, and Sierra. I'd recommend them in that order.

The sierra is the worst one of the lot, and the RCBS is overpriced.

Better off buying a manual from who ever's bullets you use the most and downloading some free ballistics software.

In my opinion other than the ballistics calculator that some come with, there's no advantage at all.... in fact, the book is handier unless you've got your puter in your loading room.  And good ballistics software can be had free.

go to http://www.HuntingNut.com and download the free "Point Blank" software. It is as good as any I have seen and I use it almost as much as I use my own program.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

Thanks guys.  I downloaded the PointBlank free stuff and I think that is all that I need for the ballistics end.  With all of the on-line data from private folks, bullet compainies, and powder manufacturers I think I'll be set.  And, to top it all off . . . no $ wasted.
