Yip Yip Yahoo, 1st shoot with my Armys
« on: January 10, 2004, 10:48:32 PM »
Yesterday was my 1st shoot for my 1860 Armys, I went 6 stages with only one cap that did not fire ( last stage, I forgot to seat the caps...smack) . The shooters worked great, no jams or misses.
Thanks Cactus Cris for the help, them thar new nipples sure did the trick.

Did I mention it was blue skys and temp in the 60s, God blessed Texas.

Real good J.W., Yup, Cactus Cris is one to ride the river with for sure. He is always there to help everyone with anything.
What powder? Did you do any lubing of the cylinder pin along the way to completing 6 stages?
How do you like pushing caps on with a stick? I am starting to lose interest in frontiersman since sass started tinkering with the class. I was talking to a pard that always shoots gunfighter and he mentioned losing interest in that class now that they tinkered with that one too.  :?

I pushed the caps on with a wood dowl.
I never had to tinker with the pistols at all, I had some bore butter on the cylinder pin before the shoot, and light coat of ballistol on the inside of the gun's parts, I did nothing more than wipe them down with my cotton rag during the match.
I put bore butter over the balls....( leave it alone)
I was loading 28 grs of Elephant 2f, rem caps.

The guns never got crusty, that bore butter sure did the trick.
Temp was cool and very low humidity.

What is the purpose of pushing the caps on with a dowel or stick?
