looking for 30-06 load for Browning X Bolt Hunter

I have H4350 and H4831sc powders on hand and Sierra Game King 150gr bullets. Has anyone used similar powders/bullets for this particular rifle? if so, some starting load suggestions would be appreciated. I realize all guns are different just looking for a good starting point.  Thanks!

I have never used either powder with 150's.  My go to load is a 180gr over 59grs H4831.

Both powders will work but I'd expect the 4350 would be a little better - check load manuals.  Like Bearcat, I don't use 150's but for years have used IMR 4350 and 180 gr bullets ( Hornady, Speer, Noslter PT)  for a very accurate load and good hunting results.  I think I use 54 to 55 gr, Rem brass and CCI or Win large rifle primers. Check load manuals to be sure.  I've used 4350 w 150s but its been a long long time and I don't recall the performance. Another powder that works well w 180 gr bullets is IMR 4831.

start there and back down, lighter bullet= less pressure with same charge= safe load


there should be a good accurate 150gr load just below that weight charge

when i use 4350 ill usually start out 1 grn below top load and work up.its a good powder for what its made for.

in every 06 ive got i use the same load ive been using since the mid 80s. 48grs of imr3031 with sierra 150gr matchking bthp. very accurate and brutal on the critters. most deer drop straight down. furthest ive evr tracked was 40 feet.

Use the 4350 for bullets 165 and under, save the 4831 for the 180's and up.
If the 4350 doesn't do what you want it to then try some H414, I've been using it in place of 4350 in the 3006 and 243 .
Consult your loading manual for charge weights.

Hodgdon's website hodgdon.com does not show H4831sc for 30-06 but does show H4831 for bullets of 175 grains and heavier.  If you call them they usually have a lot more data than what is on the website and will email it to you.

I see others referring to powder numbers without the qualifying H or I in front of them and would advise us all to use caution in being exact in calling out the full powder title.  There is a 4 grain difference in the max charge of H4350 and I4350 for a 150 grain bullet.  That's roughly a 7% difference in powder weight between the two powders.

34 years of experience in loading 30-06 for hunting and competition to 1000 yards with bullets from 125 to 200 grain have shown me that, for my rifles, the most accurate loads tend to be in the lower two thirds of the powder range for a particular combination of components.  I generally start smack in the middle of the range and wind up right in that area after pole vaulting over the mouse turds represented by little fractions of an inch.

58 to 59 grs IMR 4350 with 150 gr bullets has been a very good load in the 06 but I prefer 51.2 grs IMR 4064 with 150s because it is a little bit more accurate and depending on the barrel will run 2900 to 3000 fps.

Once I was pressed for time to develop a load for my 30-06 right before deer season and I picked what appeared to be a safe but potent load of 56 gr 4350 and a 150 grn bullet. It was so accurate I stuck with it for several seasons. It chronographed around 2700 fps. I added a Lee factory crimp and accuracy improved slightly and velocity jumped to 2800 fps. I still go back to that load frequently. It works with a variety of bullets I  can only crimp bullets with cannelures like Hornady Interlocks.
