Albino Moose
« on: October 21, 2010, 07:30:21 PM »
Anybody ever heard of one before? A teenage girl shot one in northern VT and I had never heard of one being taken anywhere.

There's a full mount pie-bald moose, mistakingly called albino in sporting goods store in Errol, NH.

Near Foleyette Ontario, the resident moose population produce a disproportionate number of white and piebald moose that aren't albino.  The locals had the government make them off-limits to hunters despite the fact that they don't breed true.  Their argument was that they could develop a business taking tourists on trips to view them if they were left unmolested.  So far there has been no appreciable increase in the proportion of white moose in the area.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

When I lived in Michigan, I worked part-time at Anderson Archery, and we had live mount of a brown and white spotted moose in our showroom. It had been shot by Bob Munger, in Alaska I believe.
I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.

We have several here in Fairbanks and the surrounding area.  They are protected, and notices go out every year for people not to shoot them.  During Moose season we still have leaves on the trees and no snow, so the White Moose stand out.  A friend sent me severl pictures he made last august of one.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
