45 colt BC
« on: November 30, 2011, 07:33:40 PM »
What have the bores been running on these? I need to know if I need to order a new mold. What do these seem to like to run for cast? I local shop has one and I might get talked into it. It is just going to be a plinker. Are they also tapped for a scope? I can not remember when I looked at it.

First of all, if a local shop has it, I'd grab it.  No transfer fees involved.  Then I'd slug the bore first and go from there.  Mine shoots 250 gr. .452 XTPs very well.  I suppose for cast you'd go a thou larger.  I'd slug it though before I invested in a mold.

Mine's D&T for the standard H&R mount.  I've been using .454 cast because that's what I have.  Get it if you can for a decent price.  Not made anymore.  I like mine OK.  Nice and light... fun.

ALL modern H&R rifles are drilled and tapped for a scope rail, even those that come with sights. What Pete said on the bore slugging, see the FAQs for the how to. Both of my 45 Colt barrels slug .4525" in the grooves and .4465" at the lands at the muzzle, slug measured with a digital caliper, so not as precise as a micrometer, but close enough.
