range day yesterday

made it to the range shot my 223 shorty shot federal factory loads 50 yards 1'' pattern . changed to my reloads 45grn hornet hollow point groups closed up to 3/8''it was getting cold fast shot my 44mag with 240 grn magtech ammo 50 yards easy 1-1/4 groups shot some of my lead reloads 3'' high these i loaded to 44 special pressures i would of thought they would shoot lower.grabbed all my stuff and headed out cold wind.won't go back till spring. :D

Slower velocity = higher impact.... at least until you get out far enough to make the drop off greater than the raise, compared to a higher velocity round. zit is due to the bullet spending more time in the barrel. The barrel has more time to come up before the bullet leaves the muzzle. With higher velocities the barrel does not have as much time to "jump" before the bullet leaves the barrel. If you get out far enough the drop of the slower bullet will be greater than the higher velocity round and start to impact lower.

Looks like you have a winner with the 45 grain Hornet bullets in the 223 and the Magtech ammo does not look too bad either.

+1 on this, but I have given up trying to explain this to some of my friends.  I just get the "stare". ???

The heavy bullet is in the barrel longer, with more inertia, so the barrel will rise more before it leaves the barrel.
