We bought my son (10) a new Marlin 336Y 30-30 Win. for Christmas.  It has the short 12 inch stock and short 16.25 inch barrel.  Other then being smaller, it looks just like my 336C 35 Rem.  He shot about 30 rounds through it yesterday before it got to dark.  He absolutely loves it.  It was the perfect gift for him.  We got our two girls (older then him) laptops and he got the rifle/carbine for their big gifts.

It came with a Weaver Base and Rings and with a cheap 3-9x40mm no name Scope.  He's not going to use it.  He wants to get the same XS Sight System Ghost Ring Sights that I have on my 336C 35 Rem.  He shoots mine pretty well but it's to big for him.  The 336Y fits him perfectly and he'll be able to use it forever.  Marlin did a good job on the 336Y.  I'm 6 foot tall with regular length arms and even with the shorter 12 inch stock it fits me pretty well too.  I want to get one now lol!

It's a brand new Remington made 336Y.  The fit and finish is great.  The action works smooth as butter and everything else work great as well.  We couldn't be happier!

That is great news all around. A happy kid, a well made good shooting rifle.
What more can a Dad ask for............................hmm there are one or two things. ;)

It is especially great when a Co. is sold and their products don't turn into junk.

Did you use a light load? Just wondering because my 12 year old wants on too and I was wondering about the recoil of the small short barreled gun. He is currently using a handi rifle in 30-30 with a youth stock. He has killed a deer with it and he shoots it well, but he has no desire to shoot that many rounds through it at once. 30 hunting rounds is allot for a little guys shoulder.... at least for my scrawny kid! LOL

This photo shows my daughter at age 15 and her huge Black Hills muley.  Rifle is Winchester 94 angle-eject shooting 150 grain Winchester SilverTip ammo.  Distance was approx 125 yards or so.  The buck never knew what hit him.

I'm glad that you added another 30-30 fan to our hunting world.

30-30 is a keeper!!

Nice deer for the girl..............................

I'm not sure if anything  or what was implied with that post.

IMO that is a very nice deer for anybody regardless of their gender.
