I wonder what the total length would be with a youth stock, if it would be legal?
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

26" OAL is legal right? so if i remember right my youth stock measures from top at reciever to top of butt plate = 12", that in itself is legal. then you have 2-3" of reciever in between. i dont think youd have a problem. you could actually trim the stock a little if you wanted to. not sure why you would... mare's leg single shot? :D

Sure it would be legal. It has a 16" barrel. Add the remaining length of the receiver and about 9" or so of stock (probably just beyond the pistol grip) and you have the minimum 26" OAL quite easily.
If you have plans to make up a "shorty" for someone of small stature, go for it. With that short of a barrel and a youth stock it would be quite handy for someone.  :)

He should be fine even with a youth stock.. you've only got to be 26" in total length to be legal...

the youth stock with the frame and recoil pad are roughly 16" total in length (the one I have from the factory sitting here with me is anyway..) .. add in the 16.5" bbl and you are are at 32.5".. you have a full 6.5" of excess  8)

16" barrel and 26" OAL on a rifle.
IIRC a shotgun must be 18" barrel to be legal to hunt with but is the OAL the same or a different lenght?

Oal stays the same meaning you can cut more off the stock. :)

A 16.5" BBL Handi, with synthetic youth stock, is 29.5" OAL. I have 3 of them  ;)

Kinda looks like my Maxi, although it wears a different scope now. I don't like red-dots.

My rifle with its 16.4" barrel and ~11" LOP is a bit under 29" long.

Still more accurate than I am, though I am not all that great with a rifle :P . I was only able to do about 1.5MOA (consistently, though), but my wobble was absolutely the cause of that (I could see my crosshairs moving all over the target lol). Though, now it is a compact "stalking" gun so fine accuracy aren't concerns.
But, I don't know if I've read of anyone who did a "garage barrel chop" that actually saw a reduction in accuracy. Spend a little time being careful and truing it up with a file and you're good to go!

Cool :) . Though all else being equal, a shorter barrel is less heat sensitive than a long one!
