New A&H 320 Just Arrivied & Results
« on: January 16, 2004, 07:02:59 AM »
Well it came in the mail last night:
   First impressions:
                              Gees it is big
                              Gees its heavy
                              Man is it built
                              It shoulders great
                              Gosh it seems heavy
So, I got my Remington out, ya, they were about the same, next was the Lyman and ya they were not that much different. so it must all be in the balance that I am not use to.

Cleaned the whole thing up put the scope on it and
                              yep, it still heavy
                              it shoulders great
really easy to get on the scope

I need to finish entering grades at school this morning then I am heading to the rock pit and put a few rounds through it... just hope ther isn't to much snow, and it doesn't get dark until late tonight - I hate winter it cuts into my shooting time.

Let u-all know me experiances tonight.... :P
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

The only thing I don't like about mine is the blowback gets a little crud on the scope body.  And I did have to recently replace the bolt.  A&H  did this at no cost to me.  but yes it is a bit heavy but on the bench it's a pleasure to shoot.

It seems heavy because it so long... because of the long receiver area it puts more barrel out front.

One thing you can do to really reduce the blowback is to use Remington 209-4 .410 primers with loose powder. A big difference.

The best bullet by FAR in my Austin Halleck 420 is the 300gr PR Extreme 253 with 100gr 777 ffg.  I shot three GREAT 3-
shot groups back to back; 1.4 inch, 1.05 inch. and 0.8 inch.

You'll also find the A&H to have a GREAT trigger.

Also when putting the bolt back together I crank the firing pin all the way in, then crank out 2.25 turns, then set.  You'll know what I'm talking about the first time you clean the bolt!

ALSO....The best stuff to use on the breech plug is Gorilla Grease.  Coat both sets of threads best you can and finger tight only.

Just got back from shooting - Wow! what a gun...

Big6x6 - thanks for the bolt info - I DO see what you mean and I think that answers my concern when I have read posts that say they can't get their 320's to go off.

I can not say I achieved your groups - but, I do have a six shot group that I can cover with 1 5/8" - first four shots all touch and the last 2 are 1/4" away and touching - I got excited about the first 4 all touching and got careless with the last two - pressure got me.  I wish I could show u-all a picture.

100 grains T7 loose - 44 cal 300 grain XTP - Thompson Center Black Sabot - Cheddite 209 primer.

Somebody asked about recoil - and you know I forgot to notice so it must not be important.  I do know my 12 ga. with a 3 1/2" Turkey load I notice that - but this seems like it was just another day at the office.

Anyway - happy happy happy with the A&H, I really belive that I now have muzzleloder that offers me more reach than my Remington.[/img]

Randy, currently I use RWS flanged musket caps with my A&H. Do you think the Rem. 209-4.410 would have less blowback than the musket caps???

You are already doing great, and if you try some 325 .45 / 50 SSBs or the Extremes Chuck likes, I'd guess it will just get better for you. The three I've tested are all great shooters. They do extremely well with Powerbelts as well.
