Got up Saturday morning and grabbed my gp100 and headed down the road a few miles to a small 20acre farm i hunt. got setup in a natural ground blind i had made yesterday evening. around 7:30 i hear alot of noise in the creek bottom....look over and sure enough, here comes a 6 point chasing a doe. the doe hops the creek and the lil buck stops to catch his breath:) i lean up against the oak tree beside me and squeeze the shot off. and down he went!!! 60yrds with a 180gr. lead bullet! i walked up to him and just kneeled and said a prayer....thanking the good Lord for letting me harvest some venison for the family:)

Congratulations !! Fine buck should be excellent eating. I'm jealous ....been skunked so far this season myself. Hope to
at least get a doe with my S&W 686 this year. I enjoyed the picture of your two boys. It reminded me of my two
boys when they were that age (now 30 and 27) and helping my Dad and me skin and cut up our deer. My boys hunt now too. Good Luck rest of your season!

thanks guys! my 5 yr. old helped me dress the buck out. he is very curious, which is good. i think he'll end up in the medical field ,like my wife:) he even helped me start the skinning for the skull mount yesterday. all very special memories!

Congratulations on a fine job well done.. Thank you for sharing the pictures and story. Yours is the only way to carry on the hunting tradition. Too many youth are tied to the TV and video games. Like you, I stop after the harvest and before field dressing, and Thank the Good Lord for the animal.. The power of prayer should not be under estimated. Best, Rol

Good job. I'm glad to see someone offer some proof that the 357 mag is an adequate deer cartridge. I laugh when I read that the minimum must be a 44 magnum.

i took my time on dressing the deer and let me say that the bullet did ALOT of damage! the off side shoulder was horrible...i couldnt salvage any meat on it. i think the 357 is a great catridge, very versatile, and can be handloaded with some nice 200gr. bullets. what limits me is iron sights and i think thats a good thing.....i wouldnt shoot past 75yrds. i love it:)
