Martini Cadet conversion
« on: January 24, 2012, 12:03:35 PM »
Just thought I'd see if anyone had done what I have in mind so as to know if it's practical.  I have a Cadet action and a suitable barrel and was thinking about converting to .32/40.  I know .32/20 has been done but not too interested.  Did some rough measuring and it might be a little close sliding the cartridge over the breech block.  Anyone ever done one or heard of it being done?  Goatwhiskers

I have seen the .310 Cadet barrels rechambered to 32 Winchester Special and they work fine.
The 32-40 is only a little longer so I think it would work OK.

Mine is in as issued condition except for the rechambering to .32-20. I have seen one other one that was rechambered for .357 magnum, I don't see why .32-40 wouldn't work. Offhand, the thing I would be concerned with would be overall cartridge length geometry when chambering. If the cartridge is no longer, or a bit shorter than the breech (falling) block, it should work I would think (?). It would have to be short enough to match the curve into the chamber.

They're fun little rifles for sure. According to Cartridges of the World, .32-20 will also chamber .310 greener and a few others in .32.  Enjoy yours and good shooting!
