PP with Lee Loader?
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:19:59 AM »
Anyone tried to load a patched bullet with a Lee Loader?

I'm guessing it would be problematic. The thought being I probably need to expand the case mouth a little to really allow the patch in without damage?

The Lee loader will work as well with paper patched bullets as it will with lubricated lead bullets. You will need to expand the case mouth with either type of bullet. Lee sells a small expanding tool as an accessory to the Lee Loader. I have one for 30 cal. They must make them for other calibers as well. They are not cataloged. Send them an email. I remember paying about $5 for it.

And a pair of chain nose (needle nose to most people) pliers inserted into the case mouth in the closed position and turned makes a wonderful case mouth expander. I have pretty much quit using other methods since I heard about this.

That's an idea. I am curious why the .44 loader I have comes with an expander, but the 7.62x54r doesn't? Best guess is they expect that cast bullets are more likely in .44 and boat tailed, jacketed in 7.62.

Have to admit, haven't opened either up to read yet. Packed them for an upcoming move. Last I used a Lee Loader was for shotshells, decades ago. Bought both as "part of the purchase" of the guns. Don't like to be without some sort of reloading for guns I buy.
