10" 30-30 to AI??
« on: January 14, 2004, 02:24:59 AM »
I've got a 10" 30-30 that I'm playing around with right now, and wondering if there'd be any value in rechambering it to 30-30 AI.

Is the AI any good in a 10" barrel, or is that too short to get any value out of the rechambering?

I did a quick look at the velosities of the .30-30 fired from different lenth barrels. Seem the 14 in barrel is about 200 fps. faster than the 10 in. barrel and about 150 fps. slower than a 20 in. barrel. It also looks like you will gain about 110 fps. from a rifle barrel with the imp., it should be some what less in a 10 in. barrel. Looks like you would better off to sprnd your money tradeing for a 14 in. barrel.

When I was looking for a 7-30 Waters...the guys told me it was NOT a worthwhile improvement over 7mm TCU with a short barrel.
....make it count

That's kind of what I was figuring would happen.  With that short of a barrel, it'd be hard to burn much more powder.

Guess I'll just keep it a 30-30.

thats what i would do, and look for a 14" 30-30AI, or something in 14" to rechamber.
