Caught A Nice Red!
« on: January 14, 2004, 12:47:46 PM »
Went to check some traps this morning and had a nice male red fox in a snare. This is my first this year and only my 2nd ever. I wish I could catch more cause they are so easy to skin and flesh!

Tom: I also tried a 330 castor mound set. I found where another beaver is cutting some small saplings under a bridge. I put the mound on the bank which sets up about 8" above the water and placed the 330 in the water about half way under. I stabilized it and kind of blocked the sides off. Will this work?

Thanks for Everything Guys,
Zach Ellis

Zach, did you place some castor based lure on the mound? If you did you should be skinning beaver in the morning.Keep us posted on how things are going.Once you start hammering beaver you will forget all about fox, well maybe you won't when you are skinning beaver.
Glad to see your season is going well.

Tom: I put some castor and oil from the sacs off the first beaver I caught on the mound. I didn't have nothing this morning, but it was awful windy last night. Does that affect the beavers movement. I know he is there. I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks,
Zach Ellis
