Wow you picked the hardest one to practice a conversion on. I did it on a 20 to 28 and yeah getting it to crimp right is not fun. I honestly don't think I could talk you thru it without us both being there looking at the press.

It's been awhile since I did the conversion (several years) so it's not fresh on my mind. I've loaded on MEC presses for over 35 years and it was not easy to get it right. I seem to recall there are two adjustments that have to be played with to get it right. I did mine on a MEC Sizemaster 77 which press are you converting?

one of the midyears 600jr's. went from 20-410. Everything else worked out just fine, but the 2 crimp stages won't even engage the hulls.

 Just a wild guess, do you have the press set up for 3” shells? Check to make sure the column bolt is in the correct position.

I really don't know much about these presses. got it used. loaded several 2 3/4" 20's on it. the kit is for 2 1/2" 410's or so it says. might just have to load 3". took a look at the base and where the column bolts in. its at the lowest setting.

Get a hold of a Mec manual for your press. The instructions were pretty good if I remember right.

You can get the instructions off the MEC web page. It does sound like you are set for 3" shells. You can run a 2 1/2" shell through it until you get to the crimping stations, that is where the heigth difference bites you. The press should be in the lower hole for 2 1/2" shells, or get an adapter that raises the crimping stations and leave the press set for 3" shells. Good luck, JamesIII

 If that's the case and you don't want to return it you could get a spacer. That way you could change back and forth from 3” to 2.5” without adjusting your press.
