I have buoght a Super 14" in .223 caliber.  I am needing to know if it has to energy to knock over half-size sillhouettes, in IMHSA competition. I will be using a 2-7x32 Bushnell scope. What kind of loads work good in this set up?

The .223 will most certainly work in Half-Scale.  However, you'll have to be careful.  Driving a light bullet too fast will cause target damage, and you'll not be on your match director's list of top ten favorite shooters.  I have no personal experience with this chambering; thus, I cannot give you any load data unfortunately.  Good luck.  Steve

Welcome to the Sport!  Steve is right on about target damage.  Talk to the MD where you are going to shoot and see if he has some old steel for you to shoot at first if you are not sure about target damage which happens most on the chickens and pigs with the light fast stuff.  You do not need a lot of power for the 1/2 scale game.  The targets are the same as the Field Pistol targets and in that game the .22 hornet is king so power isn't what you need, accuracy is.

Good luck and above all remember to have fun! :D

A couple of shooters around here are using the .223 on Half-Scale with good results. They are using 60 grain bullets on chickens and pigs, with H4895 and no target damage. Easily knocks over the rams too. Sorry I can't give you the grains, as I won't see any of them until March. Check the loading manuals, they might have something for you.

I had a friend that used varmint bullets at around 2600-2700fps.  with no target damage on full size.  The frangible suckers do just fine.  Dan

I have shot my 223 in half scale and full size.  I use Nosler 55 grn ballistic tips on chickens and WW bulk 55 grain sp from pigs on out.  No target damage.  Takes all animals.  I have rang a full size ram on center body hits, so would not consider it viable bigbore caliber, but have shot and done well even in big bore when I forgot my other ammo.

Get it, shoot it, enjoy it.

What we tell guys that want to shoot the .223 on the half scale targets is to try and get something that shoots in the 2200-2300 fps range. Then after they try it out on the chickens we give the target a look over and most of the time it is no problem on the T-1 targets.
